Acid Rain

This is a progressive, quite experimental song, inspired by the feeling that the world is not how we have always thought.

Lyrics, voice and ukulele by Melanie Brennan; arrangements and mixing by me.

Acid Rain
I thought we were invincible
Our struggles in the past
The hunt for our fulfilment
Was what filled us

Though I wasn’t a star player
Still played my part
Yeah I reaped the benefit
Of a world ripped apart

And at only twenty-seven years old
I am paying the price
Of all I am and all I have known
Must be unsewn
I must redesign

Even the oceans are rising
Tossing and turning like the rage
Encaged inside my chest
Right next to where the heart is
Melting, falling just like the ice
That slides to great depths

We prayed for rain’s descent
But we got acid instead
Raining down on our heads

We weren’t to know truth at all
They told us all a lie
The blind was indispensable
To the life I had

And what a life it was
What a grand disguise
When the covering came off
It was high time

And at only twenty-seven years old
I am paying the price
Of all I am and all I have thought
Mission abort
Gotta get into line

Even the oceans are rising
Tossing and turning like the rage
Enslaved inside my chest
Right next to where the heart is
Melting, falling just like the ice
That hides grave danger still

We prayed for rain’s descent
But we got acid instead
Raining down on our heads

Yeah we got acid instead
Raining down on our heads
Yeah we got acid instead
Raining down acid rain

People wanna burn
People wanna hurt
People wanna turn their head away

People wanna crush
People need a rush
People never seem to get enough

And at only twenty-seven years old
I am paying the price
All we are and all we believe

Is not as it seems
Just made to please
Part of the scheme
We must realign
